Emergency management directors are responsible for developing procedures designed to manage natural disasters or other emergencies. They are also a critical part of the team that responds during and after an emergency. Most emergency management director positions require at least a bachelor’s degree and Post University offers several programs designed to prepare individuals for careers in that industry.
The Bachelor of Science in Emergency Management and Homeland Security is designed for those who feel called to serve and protect the country as well as those who wish to help others in a time of crisis. The program prepares individuals to meet disasters and emergencies head-on as well as methods for making informed decisions. The program focuses on the four phases of emergency management which include mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery. Students gain the skills necessary to prepare for emergencies, manage operations during a crisis and conduct recovery efforts. They are also provided historical awareness of terrorism, an analysis of past crises and pending threats. Courses required may include:

Students must also complete an emergency planning project and an internship. The program is available both online, on campus and in a hybrid version.
About Post University
Post University was founded in 1890 as the Matoon Shorthand School, offering training in typing, bookkeeping, and other business-related programs. The school was purchased in 1897 by Harry C. Post who renamed the school Waterbury Business College. In 1931, the school was renamed Post College in honor of Post who had also become the school’s first principal.
Post grew over the years and eventually moved to its own campus on Country Club Road near Waterbury, Connecticut. In 1976, the school began offering bachelor’s degrees in order to help Vietnam veterans who were returning from the war and needed higher education. In 1990, the school partnered with Teikyo University and the name changed to Teikyo Post University. At the same time, an influx of international students and online options grew enrollment rapidly. In 2004, the name of the school became Post University after a new Board of Trustees was established.
Today, Post is committed to being there for their students every step of the way. Programs are offered on campus where they experience a dynamic culture and tight-knit community. They may also choose to attend Post University online which allows them the flexibility to meet family, social and work obligations. Programs are also offered in hybrid versions where students may take some courses online and some on campus. This allows students to choose an on-campus setting if they need more one-on-one instruction in a particular subject but still need the flexibility of online classes.
US News & World Report ranks Post University’s online graduate business and education degree programs as some of the best in the country. The publication also ranks the online bachelor’s programs as some of the best. The school has been named one of the Best for Vets by Military Times.
Post University Accreditation Details
Post University is regionally accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education. This assures parents, students, and employers that the education provided is of the highest quality and that credits earned at the University will transfer to other colleges and universities. Accreditation also indicates that the school has the necessary resources to meet its goals and objectives. Programs throughout the school may be accredited by the following organizations:

Post University Application Requirements
Undergraduate applicants must provide an official high school transcript or copy of their GED. Applicants with military background must also provide a copy of their DD214 or Enlisted Records Brief as well as their Joint Services Transcript. SAT or ACT scores may be submitted but are not required. Transfer students must have an average of “C” or better and must be in good standing with the last college attended. No more than 75 credits can be transferred to Post University.
Graduate applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university. They must provide official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended. They must also have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher in all undergraduate work. Those with a 3.0 or higher must provide one letter of recommendation. Applicants may be admitted with a lower GPA but must provide two letters of recommendation, a personal statement and obtain permission from the Dean.
Post University Tuition and Financial Aid
Full-time undergraduate tuition at Post University is $29,550 per year for on-campus attendance and $13,880 for online students. Full-time graduate tuition is $8,300 per year for full-time students and $7,040 for online students.
Financial aid is available and, to qualify, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Because Post University accepts students on a rolling basis, there is no deadline to file the FAFSA. Online students are encouraged to submit all financial aid documents at least one week before a module begins to be sure aid can be properly dispersed. Students may be offered grants and scholarships based on their need. In addition, students are awarded the maximum federal student aid for which they are eligible to offset the cost of tuition.
In addition, Post University accepts employer reimbursement as well as military education benefits to cover the cost of education.
