Chaired by Prof. Victor Lauria, the Occupational Safety, Health and Fire Science (BS) builds a 120-credit, HLC-accredited curriculum that fulfills OSHA certification with 10-week summer internships, such as the American Red Cross, Dearborn Fire Department, Border Patrol, or Federal Emergency Management Agency. For shorter study, the Occupational Safety, Health and Fire Science (AS) plots a 60-credit, two-year track with 79 percent retention in lower-division courses from Industrial Hygiene to Arson Investigation. About Madonna University
Madonna University originated in 1937 when Mother Mary DeSales Tocka welcomed an inaugural class of 18 to Presentation of the Blessed Virginia Mary Junior College. Dedicated to 2 Corinthians 5:14, it initially provided two-year Roman Catholic associate degrees for Felician Sisters. On April 24, 1959, it received regional accreditation for bachelor’s education as Madonna College. In 1962, Madonna notably founded its College of Nursing & Health Sciences. Two decades later, Madonna further expanded to launch graduate programs. In 1991, the Madonna University name was adopted to signify its master’s-level status. In 2006, Madonna was added to the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll. In 2009, Madonna University organized its earliest doctorate for post-master’s learners. Madonna University Accreditation Details
On June 14, 2018, the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association (HLC-NCA) Institutional Actions Council formally notified Madonna University that the Level V accreditation status was renewed through another 2027-28 evaluation under President Michael Grandillo, Ph.D., who earned Kiwanis International’s Legion of Honor Award. Located 260 miles west via Interstate 94 in Chicago, Illinois, this giant 19-state Great Lakes Region accreditor is recognized by the U.S. Education Department to review Madonna’s 16 associate, 75 baccalaureate, 34 master’s, and two doctoral degrees. Further, Madonna University was accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) in 2017.
Madonna University Application Requirements
Enrollment at Madonna University is classified “moderately difficult” by Peterson’s because only 771 of the 985 Fall 2018 applicants were successful for selective 78 percent acceptance. First-year Crusaders seeking the Emergency Management (BS) must have completed a strong high school curriculum or the GED equivalent. The Class of 2022 achieved an average secondary GPA of 3.22. The middle 50th percentile had ACT scores of 18-23. Mid-range admitted SAT scores were 840-1050. The Office of Admission prefers freshmen exceeding the 2.75 GPA, 20 ACT, and 1000 SAT mark. Incoming transfers need 12+ accredited credits with GPAs above 2.0 and good standing. The Michigan Transfer Agreement lists eight prerequisite courses, including College Algebra and English Composition. International students typically need at least 76 MELAB, 6.0 IELTS, or 70 TOEFL iBT scores. The Emergency Management Leadership Post-Master’s Certificate only admits students who’ve finished graduate school with GPAs over 2.5.
Madonna University conveniently has rolling admission year-round. Freshmen choosing the Early Decision Agreement must apply before December 1st. February 15th is the priority date for financial aid consideration. Non-U.S. residents must file by April 1st for Fall, October 1st, for Winter, or February 1st for Summer starts. For 2019-20, Madonna University is charging full-time Livonia undergrads $11,550 per semester or $23,100 annually. Emergency Management (BS) majors studying part-time pay $770 per credit. Outreach or online courses are priced $445 per credit. High school dual enrollment options are $265 per credit. Undergrads cover the $200 parking fee, $100 graduation fee, and $20 payment plan fee.
