Since 2018, the College of Adult Professional Studies has housed the Emergency Planning & Management B.S. for Immaculata University Mighty Macs to assume essential government roles preparing communities to withstand dangerous natural and man-made disasters. Chaired by Dr. George Schwartz, the 126-credit, FEMA-approved program is designed for working adults with life experience and college transfer credits. Each eight-week term, required courses like Threat Assessment and Public Sector Finance are delivered online via Moodle with limited Malvern or Philadelphia Police Academy sessions.
Majors can join the National Emergency Management Association (NAEM) and Omicron Sigma Sigma Honor Society with GPAs above 3.25. Graduates have 88 percent job placement with the US Army, Lankenau Hospital, DuPont, Crozer Keystone, Chester County, and more. Immaculata also partners with Penn State Harrisburg for a seamless online transition into its 33-credit MPS in Homeland Security.
About Immaculata University
Immaculata University originated in 1920 when the Sisters Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary earned a charter to build the Philadelphia Archdiocese’s first Catholic women’s school. In 1929, Archbishop Dennis Joseph Dougherty approved the name change from Villa Maria College to Immaculata College. Three decades later, Immaculata started coed education in its new Evening Division. In 1974, the Continuing Education Office opened to serve adult students. That same year, the Immaculata Mighty Macs famously won their third-straight women’s basketball national championship. In 1983, the Graduate School was formed for advanced programs. By 1988, Immaculata covered a 373-acre Malvern campus in Eastern Pennsylvania with Mary A. Bruder Center. In 1991, the Clinical Psychology Psy.D. was debuted. In 2002, the ACCU member adopted the Immaculata University name. In Fall 2005, Immaculata also stopped restricting male enrollment in undergraduate majors.
Endowed for $17.4 million, Immaculata University now employs 273 faculty teaching 2,462 Mighty Macs from eight countries at a 9:1 ratio online and face-to-face in Whiteland Township with 40+ clubs like Catholic Relief Services. In 2017, Immaculata received the CSAC Institutional Academic Excellence Award. In 2018, Immaculata accepted the Office of Catholic Education of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia Grant. Immaculata University earned the 2018 Its On Us PA Grant with the Crime Victims’ Center too. The U.S. News & World Report ranked Immaculata the 183rd best college nationwide. On Niche, Immaculata boasts America’s 223rd safest campus, 388th most conservative students, and 517th best dorms. The Wall Street Journal placed Immaculata University 469th overall. Forbes chose Immaculata for the 371st best private education. Money magazine also declared Immaculata the 262nd top value with an average loan debt of $27,000.
Immaculata University Accreditation Details
On June 26, 2014, the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) Board of Trustees voted to reaffirm Immaculata University after meeting the 14 Standards of Excellence for Level VI accreditation through 2023-24 under its 10th president, Ms. Barbara Lettiere, a National Association of College and University Business Officers member. Headquartered 31 miles east via Interstate 76 in Philly, this supreme six-state Northeast Region accreditor is authorized by the U.S. Education Department to continually review Immaculata’s 10 associate, 56 bachelor’s, 10 master’s, and four doctoral options. Further, Immaculata was accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) on December 16, 2011.
Immaculata University Application Requirements
Enrolling at Immaculata University is classified “moderately difficult” by Peterson’s because 1,330 of the 1,639 Fall 2017 applicants were okayed for selective 81 percent acceptance. First-year Mighty Macs must graduate from an accredited secondary school or earn the GED equivalent. Sixteen college-prep units, including four in English, are considered prerequisite. Freshmen present an average 3.26 GPA. The middle 50th percentile have SAT composite scores of 1030-1240. Mid-range ACT scores are currently 17-23. The Honors Program requires a minimum 3.5 high school GPA and 1160 SAT mark. Online Emergency Planning & Management B.S. majors must transfer 24+ post-secondary credits though. The College of Adult Professional Studies accepts a maximum of 72 transfer credits with GPAs over 2.0. International students must prove English skills with 65 TOEFL iBT and 6.0 IELTS scores or higher. Continuing into Penn State’s MPS in Homeland Security will require at least 3.0 GPAs.
Immaculata University conveniently has rolling admission with acceptance decisions in 3-4 weeks. The College of Adult Professional Studies enrolls new online learners every two months. Non-U.S. residents should file before March 1st for Fall or September 1st for Spring. For financial aid consideration, the priority deadline is currently May 1st. Prospective Emergency Planning & Management B.S. majors complete the Immaculata or Common App digitally for $35. Official transcripts are sent to 1145 West King Road in West Chester, PA 19380. Tuition and Financial Aid
For 2019-20, Immaculata University is charging full-time traditional undergrads $13,250 each semester or $26,500 annually. Bachelor’s students cover an $850 university services fee yearly. Freshmen pay a one-time $350 orientation fee and $100 enrollment deposit. Living at the Malvern campus’ dorms like DeChantal Hall adds $5,730 to $9,300 for rent. The Mighty Mac All-Inclusive meal plan for Parkhurst Dining Hall is $6,230 extra each year. Immaculata budgets $2,166 for books and $3,864 for miscellaneous. Annual undergrad attendance equals $46,000 on-site and $33,520 if commuting. However, the Online Emergency Planning & Management B.S. costs much less at $540 per credit. Associate transfers would spend just $35,640 in total.
According to the NCES College Navigator, the Office of Financial Aid at Lillian P. Lettiere Center Room 118 connects 68 percent of full-time Immaculata Mighty Macs to median tuition assistance of $16,604 each or $16.57 million combined. Institutional funds include the Catholic School Grant, Legacy Grant, Family Grant, Inclusion Grant, Community College Transfer Grant, Business Advisor Board Scholarship, Sister Marie Antoine Memorial Scholarship, Monsignor M.M. Hassett Scholarship, Kathy Burke Memorial Scholarship, and Maguire Scholarship. The Presidential Scholarship has a January 15th deadline for full-time freshmen maintaining GPAs greater than 3.25. The Centennial Scholarship gifts $14,000 yearly for meritorious undergrads with at least 1150 SAT scores. FAFSA applications coded 003276 can compile Federal Pell Grant, SEOG Grant, Iraq and Afghanistan Service Grant, and Direct Subsidized/Unsubsidized Loan money. Commonwealth residents also use the PA State Grant for $2,017 to $4,123 each year at private colleges like Immaculata.
