Central Georgia Technical College offers an Emergency Medical Services Professions diploma that prepares graduates to sit for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians examination and to apply for Georgia licensure as an AEMT. The primary focus of an AEMT is to provide basic advanced emergency medical care and transportation to those how may be suffering from critical injuries or illnesses. Paramedicine Diploma

The Paramedicine diploma provides instruction in advanced emergency medical care for patients who may be critical and in need of emergency attention. Paramedics are a critical part of a comprehensive EMT response and perform interventions under medical oversight with equipment often found on an ambulance. The diploma offers an opportunity for graduates of the EMT/AEMT programs to move into paramedic positions. The program provides the qualifications necessary for students to sit for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic certification and to apply for licensure as a Georgia paramedic. The program is open to those who hold current licensure as an EMT. In addition to general education courses, students must complete:

  • Advanced Resuscitative Skills for Paramedics
  • Anatomy & Physiology I & II with labs
  • Applications of Pathophysiology for Paramedics
  • Basic Psychology
  • Clinical Applications for the Paramedic I, II, II, IV, V, VI & VII
  • Foundations of Paramedicine
  • Therapeutic Modalities of the Special Patient
  • Therapeutic Modalities of Cardiovascular Care
  • Therapeutic Modalities of Medical Care
  • Therapeutic Modalities of Trauma Care

Students must also complete an internship.

Paramedicine Associate Degree

Central Georgia Tech offers a two-year degree in Paramedicine that prepares students to provide advanced medical care on an emergency basis. The paramedic is a link between the scene of an illness or accident and the healthcare system designed to treat injuries and sicknesses. The program allows those holding EMT and AFMT certificates to advance to the paramedic level. The program is open to those who hold a current certification or licensure as an EMT or AEMT. Courses required include:

  • Advanced Resuscitative Skills for Paramedics
  • Anatomy & Physiology I & II with labs
  • Applications of Pathophysiology for Paramedics
  • Clinical Applications for the Paramedic I, II, II, IV, V, VI & VII

An internship is also required for this program.

Central Georgia Technical College was established in 2012 when Middle Georgia Technical College and Central Georgia Technical College consolidated. Central Georgia Technical College was established in 1962 and Middle Georgia Technical College in 1973. The school offers 39 associate degree programs, 50 diplomas and 124 technical certificates in a wide variety of subjects.

Central Georgia Technical College Accreditation Details

Central Georgia Technical College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. This indicates that the college undergoes periodic review to confirm that they continue to offer programs that meet or exceed standards set by the agency and that they agree to address any areas identified during the review process as needing improvement. Nursing programs offered at Central Georgia Tech are accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing and the automotive technology program is accredited by the ASE Education Foundation. The cardiovascular technology and adult echocardiography programs are accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Cardiovascular Technology. The carpentry and construction management programs are accredited by the National Center for Construction Education and Research while the clinical laboratory technology program is accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences.

The dental hygiene programs are accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation while the Electrical Systems Technology program is accredited by the National Center for Construction and Research. The paramedic program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs and the pharmacy technology program is accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists.

Central Georgia Technical College Application Requirements

Applications can be completed through BannerWeb, the GAfutures website or submitted via paper application. All applicants must take the ACCUPLACER placement test or submit official SAT, ACT or CPE scores. Some students may waive the ACCUPLACER test though official transcripts that show satisfactory completion of English and math. Adult students must have a high school diploma or GED. Some programs may have other requirements, such as licensure or certification, before a student can be admitted.

Central Georgia Technical College Tuition and Financial Aid

Tuition for Georgia residents is $89 per credit hour and $178 for out-of-state students. All students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) in order to qualify for assistance. The FAFSA submission process opens October 1 each year. All financial aid awarded is based on information provided on the FAFSA.

Aid may be offered in the form of federal Pell Grants or Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants. State grants and scholarships may also be offered as part of a financial aid package. Students may be eligible for Hope scholarships, grants, career grants, and dual enrollment programs. Student loans may also be included in a financial aid package. Federal work-study programs, which provide employment in exchange for tuition, may also be included. Central Georgia Technical College accepts military benefits, workforce innovation and opportunity assistance, employer tuition reimbursement and other types of financial aid.
