On Blackboard, the School of Professional Studies awards a Bachelor of Science in Emergency Medical Services Administration for certified paramedics and EMTs to reach 120 credits of eight-week Anna Maria College courses like Critical Incident Response and Pre-Hospital Care. In Trinity Hall, the 120-credit Bachelor of Science in Emergency Management chaired by Dr. Judith Kenary, a BIDMC Fellow, immerses Paxton undergrads in hazard mitigation topics at a 12:1 ratio. Recognized by the FESHE, the Bachelor of Science in Fire Science follows a 2+2 online format of 60 credits advancing blaze prevention skills.

The 36-credit Master of Public Administration directed by Dr. Stephen Morreale, an HHS Distinguished Service Award recipient, offers five online tracks: General, Criminal Justice, Emergency Management, Fire & Emergency Services, and Homeland Security. Headed by Dr. Gregory Ciottone, the Master of Science in Health Emergency Management blends online courses like Disaster Logistics and three in-person simulations with a unique 39-credit curriculum for medical graduate students. Other opportunities are the 12-credit Health Emergency Management Certificate, Victim Studies Certificate, and Homeland Security Certificate.

Anna Maria College originated in 1945 when Archbishop Richard J. Cushing and the Sisters of Saint Anne requested a charter from the Commonwealth’s Board of Collegiate Authority. On September 17, 1946, Sr. Marie Anne Eva Mondor welcomed its first all-female freshmen class in Marlborough. Six years later, it acquired a permanent 193-acre Worcester County campus near Moore State Park. Accredited in 1955, Anna Maria College first graduated over 100 women in 1964 during Sr. Irene Socquet’s tenure. By 1975, AMC had started Master of Science education and admitted male students. Anna Maria formed a Board of Trustees in April 1980 that partnered with IBM during the 1990s for new tech solutions. After two decades, AMC delivered its first distance program in 2010. Endowed for $4.8 million, the “Catholic College of Distinction” now serves 1,445 Amcats, including B.S. in Emergency Management majors, outside Boston or online.

Anna Maria College Accreditation Details

In March 2009, Anna Maria College received an official reaffirmation letter from the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) Commission on Institutions of Higher Education (CIHE) to continue the Level III accreditation through 2019 under its 11th president, Ms. Mary Lou Retelle, who earned the MASCA Outstanding Leadership Award. Based 54 miles east via Massachusetts Route 2 in Burlington, this nonprofit six-state Northeast accreditor is authorized by the U.S. Secretary of Education to review the academic standards of AMC’s 28 baccalaureate, 10 master’s, and 16 certificate options. The B.S. in Fire Science is one of five online degrees given the Fire and Emergency Services Higher Education (FESHE) recognition. Anna Maria College was also approved by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) for paramedics through February 2021.

Anna Maria College Application Requirements

Getting into Anna Maria College is classified “minimally difficult” by Peterson’s because 1,429 of the 1,785 Fall 2017 applicants were welcomed for 80 percent acceptance. First-year Amcats prowling the B.S. in Emergency Management must finish a secondary program of study with four units of English and three units of Math. Passing the Massachusetts GED with a 2250 or better also qualifies. Freshmen need a minimum 2.0 GPA, but the average is 2.78. The Mid-Career Track of 30 credits necessitates at least five years of related experience. GRE scores are optional, but the M.S. in Health Emergency Management requests 3.0 GPAs.

Anna Maria College enforces freshman deadlines of November 15th for Early Action and January 1st for Regular Decision. Tuition and Financial Aid

For 2018-19, Anna Maria College is billing on-site B.S. in Emergency Management majors $17,740 per semester or $35,480 annually. Part-time traditional study incurs $1,478 per credit or $4,435 each course. Undergrads pay a $1,070 comprehensive fee and $120 student government fee by term. Unless waived, health insurance adds $1,785 while Dewar tuition insurance is $365. Living at the Paxton campus’ dorms like Coghlin Hall costs $14,230 for yearly room and board.
