As the need for proper training in federal law enforcement grows, so does the number of Careers at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center. The FLETC is the national training center for the law enforcement government agencies of our country. Under the Department of Homeland Security, the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center based in Glynco, Georgia is the indoctrination and training center that is the equivalent to the “boot camp” that all new armed forces recruits attend to begin their careers. It is here that personnel from different agencies will learn the basics of law enforcement and be taught the skills needed within their field to be an effective operator of that agency.

Training Agent

These agents are the backbone of the training center where experienced personnel in their field share their knowledge in the training of new recruits. A wide range of topics are taught and evaluated that can include work performed in the field versus a classroom setting. Many instructors also provide adequate evaluation of current processes and monitor the activities of agencies currently in operation. This person is considered to be an expert in their field and able to operate as an additional component of the unit as well as provide apt feedback and support.

Contract Specialist

The responsibility of the contract specialist is to ensure that outside agency vendors, providers and support entities are in compliance with the needs of the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center’s policies and requirements. The contract specialist provides a wide range of functions including price/cost analysis, contract negotiation, and the administration of services, supplies, equipment, and construction. They also schedule conferences with prospective contractors in the bidding process that provide a clear understanding of what the proposed contract will entail as well as the conducting of the contract negotiation process.

Programs Director/Senior Adviser

Where the instructors evaluate those in the field and those preparing to enter the field, the program director evaluates the effectiveness of the programs in place. They will observe and evaluate how efficiently and cost effective the training programs are in preparing officers and agents for their jobs. Program Directors will analyze budgets, report man hours as well as determine that the resources of the program are being used effectively. They serve as a consultant and adviser to the Department of Homeland Security in the evaluation of the agencies involved and offer evaluations, assessments and suggestions on ways to improve each agency’s effectiveness.

As a training facility the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center is the nucleus of learning information for the Department of Homeland Security in the context of operations and function. Their purpose is to keep the agents and their facilities working in top notch shape which enables them to continue to keep the nation safe and protected. Employment and opportunity within the FLETC are limited as the agency itself is a collective branch of all the agencies that it trains and assists. Those that seek Careers at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center are to be considered experts in their fields and expected to operate at a higher caliber than their peers.
